The history of the Milsom Hotels & Restaurants group can be traced back to the early 1950s and the purchase of a tea room which would go on to become an iconic property within the group. Le Talbooth Restaurant was discovered by the late Gerald Milsom in 1952, when it was just a simple tearoom with a superb location by the River Stour. Several years later, in 1969, Gerald bought Maison Talbooth and established it as a luxury hotel. In 1978, Gerald, returning from a visit to America, decided that he rather liked the idea of having a seafood restaurant. He found The Pier in Harwich was for sale – and the rest is history! In 2001, Paul and Geraldine Milsom opened Milsoms in Dedham, which quickly became the place to eat, drink and stay in Essex. During this decade, the company also grew the outside catering arm of the business with Milsom Catering, which is now the preferred caterer for parties and events at a number of outstanding venues in the area.
