I've been working with the team at Gold, based at the top of Portobello Road, since before their opening in the late spring of 2019. It's established itself as a vibrant community-strong restaurant and late-night bar: effortlessly cool in its aesthetics, but serving honest and rave-reviewed food, cooked mostly over flame. The food, interiors and people always ensure there is something beautiful to point the camera at.
Bar 44 is a Spanish restaurant group based across sites in Cardiff, Penarth and Bristol, run by brothers Owen and Tom Morgan. Through the last months of 2020 and into 2021, I worked with Tom and Owen to help realise a long-held dream of theirs: producing a book with which to showcase their incredible take on Spanish food and drink. Bar 44: Tapas Y Copas was a cookbook first for me, working as both photographer and designer. It is a collection of fantastic recipes and stories steeped in the gastronomic culture of the country they have so passionately celebrated for so long.

A SLICE OF CHERRY PIE
A debut book from Julia Parsons, who was one of the UK’s leading food bloggers and the founder of the UK Food Bloggers Association. Julia’s book interwove beautifully composed evocations of places, people and memories with a mix of modern rustic dishes. Homely photography from Cristian Barnett was set alongside montages of text, family snapshots and a collage of design and photographic scraps to provide a charming visual backdrop to Julia’s assured recipe prose.
